Solar Energy Analysis Station
Solar energy is a great option for many home and farm applications. The REAP’s Solar Energy Analysis Station displays two possible configurations for on- and off-grid use. The on-grid array, featured on the left, is a 1-kW system containing four 250-W modules, each with its own microinverter. Electricity is transformed from DC to AC for use in home applications. Harvested electricity goes into the grid’s power lines. The off-grid array, featured on the right, consists of one 250-W module attached to a water pump. A switch on the back of the structure turns the pump on and off. Without a battery backup, this system only works when the sun is shining. It’s an affordable option for irrigation and livestock watering in remote locations.
